Art Direction

Creative direction for studio and on-location brand and product photography.

Scentsy X Harry Potter Collaboration

Context: Scentsy's partnership launch with Warner Bros. and Harry Potter came with a detailed set of licensor guidelines. Products couldn't be shown in settings that mimicked scenes from the books or movies, which meant finding a creative direction that felt authentically Harry Potter without recreating anything from the IP.Approach: As a longtime fan, I was given the opportunity to take the lead on creative direction. I sketched concepts in Procreate, landing on a home environment that leaned into the dark academia aesthetic the IP is known for. Concepts were reviewed and approved by stakeholders and Warner Bros. before the shoot. On set I worked with the studio team on props, lighting, camera angles and special effects. After the shoot I reviewed images, provided editing notes and prepared all asset crops before coordinating final approvals and handing everything off for the campaign launch.

Outcome: The collection launched with a cohesive set of assets across web, email and social media that stayed true to the IP guidelines while giving the collaboration a distinct visual identity.

Scentsy X Disney Collaborations

Context: Disney IP collaborations come with their own creative balancing act. Each franchise has a distinct visual language and an established fan base with strong associations, and the work had to honor that while still feeling like a Scentsy campaign.

Approach: I provided studio art direction across multiple Disney collaborations, developing a unique creative concept for each that drew from the world and setting of the franchise. Concepts had to account for practical considerations as well, including avoiding text in imagery since collections were launching across multiple regional markets. Where guidelines allowed flexibility, I looked for ways to tie the imagery back to the storytelling at the heart of each franchise. I worked with the studio team on props, styling, lighting and camera angles, provided editing notes after each shoot and prepared all asset crops for the campaign launch.

Outcome: Each campaign launched with a distinct visual identity that felt true to the franchise while staying on brand for Scentsy. Assets were used across web, email, social media and promotional campaigns.

Cabela’s Brand Photography

Context: Cabela's is a brand built on the outdoors, and the photography needed to reflect that authentically. The goal wasn't to sell clothing. It was to sell a lifestyle. That meant pushing back against the instinct to make everything clean, pressed and perfect.

Approach: I provided art direction for large on-location and studio shoots alongside full production crews including producers, photographers, stylists, hair and makeup, videographers and model talent. On-location meant long days in rugged terrain and sometimes unfavorable elements to capture moments that felt real. In the studio it meant working with stylists to create laydowns and ISO shots that felt lived in rather than staged.

Sharing talent and scheduling around the catalog art director's needs was an ongoing challenge. Catalog needed clean, pressed and perfectly fitted. I needed to tell a different story. When opportunities allowed, I collaborated with the photographers to experiment with angles and ideas outside the brief. If they had something they wanted to try, we tried it. It made for a more creative process and produced some of the strongest shots in the mix.

Outcome: Assets were used across the website, email, social media, digital advertising and print, including several catalog covers. The work was recognized internally as an example of what authentic brand photography could look like for Cabela's.
